Dear Laptop Fan…

…you are currently making it very awkward for me to record quiet things. Would please kindly shut the hell up!

Thanks

Theres few things in life I hate more than crappy mic stands. If all else fails, gaffa the shit out of it!

Fancy hearing the sound of a snail chomping down on some lettuce?! This brilliant video from the BBC shows how to go about recording super quiet animals!

“SPEEDBOAT SALESMEN”

  • 3 Hour recording session in Ghost Studio 2 on the 22/02/2012
  • Two piece emo band from Manchester, stirring up some tasty ‘midwest twinkle’ that I’m gonna try and capture and put out.
  • They’ve been a bit disappointed with some of their previous recordings, and hopefully I’ll…

Interesting idea to record in the same room, it’ll make mixing alot harder but if you spend the time to get it right at source it could work. Just have to be careful with spill!

Another productive day in the studio, all the bass done!

Adam plugged in his lovely new Jazz bass with the unis EBS amp. We rigged up a collection of mics and ended up, surprisingly, going with the D112 in the end (alongside a D.I signal too).

The RE20 lost some clarity and although the Audix was super smooth up high, there was too much sub. The D112 combined with the D.I gave a great sound!

After picking the mic we then routed it through the 1176 for some soft compression on the way in, this helps flatten out the signal and keep the bass smooth all the way through. Very very nice!

D’aww, what a lovely picture of Dave! Just listening back to the recordings from the weekend, so so proud of how good the piano sounds. Looking on track for that March release date :) FeedsFeedsFeeds

Ah man, I’m so wired on IRN BRU right now. 2L of the stuff all gone! Big deadline on thursday, my 5.1 project. Today has mostly consisted on smacking my desk to create an awesome home made drum kit sample instrument, and completing the programme note that goes alongside my composition. Oh yeah, and recording a toy piano solo!! Ha, love my eclectic collection of folk/acoustic instruments. In the studio at 8am tomorrow, get this bad boy submitted. Will have to look into 5.1 foldback systems too. Be interested to hear how this pieces sounds in stereo, that and I want to get it on youtube!

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

Little ditty played on my piano at home. Its from about the 50s I think, a few keys don’t work and its rather out of tune. Infact its so old it can’t actually be tuned to ‘concert pitch’ because the frame wouldn’t be able to take the tension in the strings. But that’s what I love about it, its not perfect and I don’t want it to be!

I love my piano :)
