oops…
Composition.
In my first week as a composer to picture, as opposed to a student studying composition, and already got four jobs. Sweet!!
Now I just need to find another job that actually pays well, whilst also leaving me time to be in band and do my freelance composition stuff.
…Well its a nice dream anyway.
Dear Laptop Fan…
…you are currently making it very awkward for me to record quiet things. Would please kindly shut the hell up!
Thanks
To celebrate FINISHING recording the new EP, we’ve uploaded a tonne of pictures onto the facebook page! Here are just a few favourites for the tumblr crowd.

Wow, this week has been incredible for the band. We started by finishing off the electric guitars for the EP, cannot explain how HUGE its sounding!!
Since then we’ve been cracking on with vocals! Its interesting how we’re each suited to a different mic. Dave - AKG414, Prowse - Neumann M149, Me (Frazer) - Neumann u87. Routed them through the Avalon and then the 1176 for some nice outboard compression on the way in (not too much though, save that for the mix). Just one more day left in the studio, just got to finish the BVs (backing vocals) and add extra bits like synths and percussion etc.
Last night we played in the university BOTB, we were really bricking it. A mixture of us playing awfully in the soundcheck, that combined with how fucking awesome local band ‘Escape Artist’ are. Needless to say, we absolutely NAILED our performance. Alright we may not have played perfectly at times but it was a proper performance. After watching all the bands, it was clear it was between us and EA…we won by just two votes!!
Onto the final we role, can’t wait :D
TL:DR - My band won our heat of the BOTB. Onto the final we roll :) Sat 3rd March!
Another productive day in the studio, all the bass done!
Adam plugged in his lovely new Jazz bass with the unis EBS amp. We rigged up a collection of mics and ended up, surprisingly, going with the D112 in the end (alongside a D.I signal too).
The RE20 lost some clarity and although the Audix was super smooth up high, there was too much sub. The D112 combined with the D.I gave a great sound!
After picking the mic we then routed it through the 1176 for some soft compression on the way in, this helps flatten out the signal and keep the bass smooth all the way through. Very very nice!
D’aww, what a lovely picture of Dave! Just listening back to the recordings from the weekend, so so proud of how good the piano sounds. Looking on track for that March release date :) FeedsFeedsFeeds

We put the 414s through the stereo Avalon and then the DPAs through the DAVs. Lovely stuff!
